Alumni Reunion at CSM: celebrating creativity

In June, we welcomed alumni and friends from the BA (Hons) Performance Design & Practice and BA Graphic Design courses back to Central Saint Martins (CSM), UAL, for the 2026 Summer Shows. Guests celebrated with drinks and snacks in the canteen, catching up with old friends and exploring the incredible work of our new graduating cohort, alongside watching a series of live student performances in the Platform Theatre.

"It was 50 years ago that the 1973-1976 St.Martins School of Art Graphic Design Degree Course students graduated and went their separate ways into the wide world.

So the opportunity to have a 50-year reunion at the new Central Saint Martins (CSM) college to view and experience the current Summer Shows seemed too good an opportunity to miss.

The reunion was organised with the kind help of the Alumni Team at UAL, who facilitated the date, time and place to host the event alongside the Summer Shows. Once the details were in place, the marketing of the reunion could begin.

Marketing was an important step, as the graduates of 1976 had no social media communication tools, other than keeping personal contact details, many of which were probably lost or changed over the decades.

So getting together after so many years was fantastic, especially catching up and hearing about what everyone had done personally and professionally with their lives and careers, including Design, Film, TV, Photography, Printing, Art, Illustration, Teaching, Business, Families, Travel, Fellow Students, the Charing Cross Road Buildings, Tutors, and everything in between.

The 2026 Summer Shows were in full swing, creating an exciting backdrop for our reunion and an excellent theatre performance that enhanced our enjoyment of the event.

All 1976 reunion guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening, especially the welcome and drinks area, which proved very popular!

While not dissimilar to our 1976 Degree Shows, the 2026 Students illustrated a high level of creativity and an inquisitive 'state of mind' that we recognised and related to.

We were impressed with how easily many of the current international students engaged with us.

It was highlighted that their 50th anniversary would be in 2076!
