Kinetic (Kx) Housing accessibility statement

Housing Web is supplied by Kinetic Solutions Ltd and supported by the Financial Business Systems team, University of the Arts London (UAL). This accessibility statement applies to the Housing Web application at UAL.

How accessible this website is

We know that some parts of the website are not fully accessible. Specific sections include:

Accepting an offer landing page

  • The colour contrast of some of the elements on the page is not sufficient.
  • The Image on the homepage is missing an alt attribute.
  • There is no way to skip to the main content.
  • Menu sub-items under the primary menu, such as Study at UAL, Research, Student Jobs & Careers are not accessible to keyboard users. However, screen readers may be able to detect and speak these hidden items.
  • Some dropdown menus can't be activated using only a keyboard.
  • Some elements are missing the visual focus, and where it is in place, the visual focus may not be sufficient.
  • The search box has an empty link and there is no information about the functionality and/or target of that link. This is can cause confusion for keyboard and screen reader users.

Update email address

  • Buttons don’t have visual focus.
  • Some form fields are not labelled which may be problematic for users of assistive technology.

Application and Room Offer pages

  • Some buttons have a hover state but no visual focus.
  • Data is presented in tables and these tables may not be accessible.

When you arrive

  • Some text doesn’t have sufficient colour contrast.

Accepting an offer landing page

  • The colour contrast of the Sign-out button and the text in the Academic Year dropdown fail colour contrast. We have not met WCAG success criterion1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (Level AA).
  • The image on the homepage is missing an alt attribute. We have not met WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A).
  • The skip to main content link is broken. We have not met WCAG success criteria 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A) or 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A).
  • Menu sub-items under the primary menu such as Study at UAL, Research, Student Jobs & Careers are not accessible to keyboard users. We have not met WCAG success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A).
  • The academic year dropdown is not can't be activated using only a keyboard. We have not met WCAG success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A).
  • The search box has an empty link and there is no information about the functionality and/or target of that link. We have not met WCAG success criteria 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A), 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A), 2.4.6 Headings and Labels (Level AA) or 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A).
  • Some elements are missing visual focus and where it is in place the visual focus may not be sufficient. The links to the Colleges in the top header and all the links in the footer are missing a visual focus. We have not met WCAG success criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level A).

Update email address

  • Buttons don't have visual focus. We have not met WCAG success criteria 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level A).
  • The New Email Address  and Conform New Email Address forms are not correctly associated with a form control so won't provide relevant information about the field. We have not met WCAG success criteria 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A) or 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A).

Application and Room Offer pages

  • Return to details button has hover state but no visual focus. We have not met WCAG success criteria 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level A).
  • Data is presented in tables and may not be accessible. We have not met WCAG success criterion 1.3.1 Info and relationships (Level A).

When you arrive

  • The text of the Your Requests menu item under When You Arrive fails colour contrast. We have not met WCAG success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (Level AA).

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are liaising with Kinetic Solutions Ltd to ascertain what their plans are for accessibility fixes.

We are championing the importance of accessibility with Kinetic Solutions Ltd and are lobbying them to make their product meet the compliance as specified in The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
