Professor David Mba to join UAL as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise

Following an extensive search, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor David Mba as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise at UAL.

David is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise at De Montfort University where he is responsible for research, the Doctoral college, knowledge exchange and regional engagement. He led the creation and development of a strategic alliance with the city council to reinforce the university’s commitment to the public good.  He has also overseen the establishment of De Montfort as a major apprenticeship provider in the Midlands. Prior to his current role, David also served as Pro Vice-Chancellor/Dean for the faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, where he created the Institute of Artificial Intelligence.

David has initiated and delivered the development of numerous academic programmes including Continuing Professional Development courses. He has led and been involved with multi-million-pound industry funded research projects and has published in excess of 330 journal and conference papers. In addition, David has been involved with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and oversaw the development and publication of the first international standard in his subject.

David has previously held other leadership roles, including Dean of Engineering, London Southbank University, where he established external research innovation centres and, Associate Dean, Faculty of Aerospace and Engineering, Cranfield University. He has proven success in executive leadership, culture change and partnerships, and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

David will join the university in October 2021.
