Sony Xperia: Wearable Technology

Technology brand Sony Ericsson challenged students from BA (Hons) Fashion Sportswear and BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development to help them develop fashion-forward, technologically enhanced, garments that incorporate LiveView™.

LiveView™ is a wearable device that wirelessly connects to your phone, enabling you to check your texts, emails and tweets on the move, without the tedium of actually taking your phone out of its pocket or handbag. Staff at Sony Ericsson Extras wanted to see if more could be done to improve the LiveView™ experience and looked to LCF students for some fashion inspiration.

At a launch event, students were presented with a new Xperia™ Arc handset and a LiveView™ to help give them an insight into how the user interacts with the technology. New ideas were posted on the project website, and after two months the winning design was voted for on Sony Ericsson’s Facebook page. The winner - Claire Monique Scanlan - will travel to Sony Ericsson’s Head Office in Sweden to meet the design team.

Clare describes her 'Fashion Blogger Tech' design:

"My collection is influenced by the inspirational look of fashion bloggers. I have created a fabric strap which can be attached to a stylish jacket, worn around the wrist or adapted in any way the wearer desires. The strap will also come in a range of unique styles and patterns. I also intend to create an app for the LiveView™ which will allow fashion bloggers to quickly update their blogs from shows and events, helping make LiveView™ the latest fashion accessory."
