Biography

Dr. David Hoyle is a former television and film writer, producer and director, and is Course Leader for MA Television at London College of Communication.

David has worked in television and film for almost 40 years. He began life after university by joining the BBC, where he wrote, produced and directed arts programmes, both on location and in the multi-camera TV studio – including a series of Shakespeare productions with The National Theatre, and films on Thomas Hardy, Dickens, Zola, DH Lawrence, Thomas Harrison, Joseph Conrad.

He then commissioned programmes for Channel 4 television, including weekly hour-long live magazine 'Open at One', before setting up a successful independent TV and multi-media production company making, amongst many other things, a 135-programme series for the BBC.

David has taught film and TV at Bournemouth Media School and Anglia Ruskin University and has been an external examiner of other film courses at the International Film School of Wales, Middlesex University, The Arts University College, Bournemouth, the Central London Film School and Nottingham Trent University.

David firmly believes that making TV should be fun, and encourages students, working together, to make the programmes they want to see themselves, and of a quality, they’d expect from the best broadcasters in the world.

He says: “MA Television’s remit is factual television – that vast range of programming that occupies so much of the schedules of every broadcaster. Programmes about travel, adventure, history, daily life, current affairs, cooking, shopping, DIY, technology, science, the arts … and much, much more.

“They can each be seriously factual or highly entertaining: take a look at the current students’ work and you’ll get a sense of the range we cover.”
