Chelsea College of Arts brings together art, design and curatorial practice to explore the ideas and cultures shaping contemporary life. Through making, research and collaboration, students develop new perspectives and engage with the world around them. Creative practice connects to wider conversations across art, design and society.
Fine art and design
Chelsea specialises in fine art, design and curatorial practice.
Our courses span fine art, curating, graphic design communication, interior design, textile design and product and furniture design.
Studio culture and creative practice
Chelsea's studio-based environment encourages experimentation, collaboration and the exchange of ideas across art, design and curatorial practice. Students learn alongside artists, designers, curators and researchers whose work contributes to contemporary cultural debate. Workshops, studios, exhibition spaces, libraries and archives support creative practice.
Beyond the studio: partnerships and exchange
Through exhibitions, live projects, research and partnerships, students engage with the people, ideas and audiences shaping contemporary art and design. International partnerships and exchanges expose students to global perspectives across art, design and curatorial practice. These experiences connect creative practice to wider cultural and professional contexts.
Ideas in practice: research
Home to UAL's Research Centre for Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN), the Innovation Lab, Decolonising Arts Institute, Chelsea Space and Iniva, Chelsea brings together artists, designers, researchers and cultural organisations to explore how art and design shape society. Through research, partnerships and public programmes, ideas are developed through practice and shared beyond the College.
Chelsea and London
Chelsea is part of London's wider cultural landscape, with galleries, museums and creative organisations on its doorstep. Through exhibitions, partnerships and research, students connect their practice to contemporary cultural life and creative debates. From Steve McQueen and Thomas J Price to Margaret Calvert, Chelsea alumni have helped shape contemporary culture through art, design, curating and public life.
