Fashion Design For Beginners (Online)
Online courses occur as a live session for 1.5 hours each week, during which time you will interact with your tutor, classmates and course content using in-built audio and video chat, instant messaging and the virtual work display area.
Suitable for absolute beginners and those with some experience wanting to expand their portfolio. This course is aimed at students who would like to explore the fashion design process however, have little experience. You will be taught fundamental skills such as choosing a concept, sources of research, developing ideas into fashion sketches, rendering designs and a collection line up...

This course is aimed at students who would like to explore the fashion design process however, have little experience. You will be taught fundamental skills such as choosing a concept, sources of research, developing ideas into fashion sketches, rendering designs and a collection line up. You will have the opportunity to present your collection back to the class at the end of the course and receive feedback.
The course is split in to 3 sections:
- Choosing inspiration, developing a personal fashion statement/ identity
- Compiling the creative visuals into sketchbooks to inspire new ideas
- Selecting a colour palette and fabric options.
- Creating a fashion template as a tool to communicate design ideas
- Developing initial silhouettes, rendering designs
- Considering print and embellishment.
- Layout and helpful tools for portfolio presentation
- Preparing a line up of 10 outfits to present back to the class
Primary and secondary research
Task- students to collate research for individual themes
Students to present themes/concepts
Designers and shops: competitors
Task- students to position their designer collection and present 3 international shops they would want to sell in
Students to present their brand positioning
Creative visual collage to inspire ideas
Task- students to create stimulating collages in their sketchbooks with drawing
Students to present 3 collage ideas
Fashion template options
Task- students to design identity fashion template
Students to present their fashion template
Task- students to draw 20 initial designs in pencil
Students to present their initial fashion sketches
Task- students to design and colour final designs
Students to present final designs to class
Line ups/ final collection
Task- students to edit designs and draw line up
Presentation of collection back to class
