Structured Bra Making
Simplifying the mystery of bra making, you'll learn how to cut out and construct a series of structured bras. These will include: a non-wired full cup bra, an under-wired padded bra and a non-padded darted bra. You'll be using industrial machines on the course, but everything you learn can be done on a domestic sewing machine at home...

Simplifying the mystery of bra making, you'll learn how to cut out and construct a series of structured bras. These will include: a non-wired full cup bra, an under-wired padded bra and a non-padded darted bra. You'll be using industrial machines on the course, but everything you learn can be done on a domestic sewing machine at home. We'll demonstrate how to take a pattern from a bought bra to create your own size pattern, and you'll take home three completed bras.
The course includes:
- Introduction to lingerie fabrics and components
- Introduction to specialist industrial machines, and achieving similar effects at home
- Technical construction of structured lingerie
- Cutting out lingerie fabrics using rotary cutters
- Seam types, grain and stretch of fabrics
This course does not cover bra grading or fitting.
Intermediate. To get the most out of this course you should have pattern cutting skills to the level of Introduction to Womenswear Pattern Cutting and sewing skills to the level of Introduction to Sewing Skills.
Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.
Linda Wing is a graduate of LCF and has worked for many years as a lingerie, nightwear and swimwear designer and pattern cutter, for manufacturers and retailers. She has also run her own company as a bespoke wedding gown designer/maker. She currently passes on her industry knowledge to the next generation of lingerie designers working as a lecturer and specialist technician on the BA (Hons) Fashion Contour degree alongside various lingerie and swimwear design and making short courses.
In order to fully participate in the practical exercises please bring the following materials/equipment to the first class:
- Olfa Deluxe Rotary cutter with safety mechanism 28mm (or 45mm only if unavailable)
- Fabric and paper shears
- Fine tip fabric marker pen
- Propelling pencil - 2h lead x 3mm, fine pins and an unpicker
- Tape measure
- A bra of your own size to be taken apart in the class
