Accessibility
Accessibility is one of our core principles. We design, build and test our components with accessibility in mind, aiming to make our digital experiences inclusive.
This is an ongoing commitment, as we strive to continuously improve our work with the aim of meeting WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
When testing for accessibility, we test our components for a range of different needs covering these requirements:
Perceivable - Provide text alternatives for images, captions for video/audio, and ensure typography and colour contrast is easy to read.
Operable - Ensure all features and navigation can be used with a keyboard, not just a mouse, allow users enough time to read or complete tasks, and make interactive areas large enough to tap easily.
Understandable - Write in plain language, keep your website layout consistent, and provide error messages for users to help them correct form mistakes easily.
Robust - Write clean code so content works across devices and browsers, and screen readers can reliably interpret your content as technology updates.
Additional information about accessibility can also be found on the individual pages of components or foundational elements, when specifically relevant.
