Be your own boss: the A to Z of freelancing is a new series of practical sessions, brought to you by Careers and Employability. The five sessions will cover everything you need to consider when starting out as a creative freelancer, including: understanding what freelancing means, essential information on setting up, finding clients and work, successfully promoting what you do and taking care of your finances.
Our Enterprise Practitioner will take you through all aspects of running a successful freelancing practise and industry guest speakers and alumni will provide vital insights into how they manage and sustain their freelance work. We’ll work from real-life examples, case study insights and you’ll also get easy-to-use templates and useful links and top tips. You’ll hear first-hand about the good, the bad and the ugly.
The sessions will cover:
Setting up - how to register as self-employed and pay tax/ learn about expenses
Finding work - how to find and approach clients and build your network
Marketing - how to present and promote what you do (online and offline)
Managing your finances: how to price your work and get paid.
Know your value: how to get paid and achieve work/life balance.
Multiple income streams and the multi-hyphen method.

The sessions will be repeated in the spring and summer terms so if you miss one you can join us next time. Whilst they are designed as a series, you are welcome to just book the sessions you feel are valuable to you and your practise.
