Introduction to Bioinspired Textile Practice for Professionals Short Course

Course description

This exciting one-day workshop is delivered through a combination of discussions, presentations, and practical exercises. Students are guided through the historical and contemporary developments of bio informed practice and gain an insight into the key concepts of bioinspired textile (BIT) design.

The course explores the eight biological structural design elements and considers how students may apply these principles to their own practice. You will be introduced to relevant concepts of textile technology, material science and biology and build your understanding of how you can use these to understand the impact of your design.

During the course, students learn to evaluate their designs in terms of resource efficiency, longevity and recovery. The course introduces students to inspirational examples of textile practice (BIT design) to inspire their future design practice.
