Description


This practical course for beginners will give you an opportunity to experiment with a comprehensive range of dyeing and patterning techniques. You will have access to professional standard facilities. The course will encourage you to explore and develop techniques and processes to your personal interests and choices of colour, design and final outcome.

Topics covered

Practical workshops will cover mixing dye colours for synthetics and naturals, fabric identification and finishing techniques.

Techniques will include:

  • shibori
  • batik
  • hand painting on to silk screen,
  • indigo dyeing
  • natural dyeing and transfer printing   

Level: Beginners

Entry requirements: None

Tutor Description


June Fish works on BA and MA Textiles courses at Central Saint Martins, and has recently had a book published called 'Deigning and Printing Textiles'.

Materials


Please bring with you to the first session:

  • An apron
  • Pair of rubber gloves
  • Pen and pencils
  • A sketchbook
  • Plastic file to keep your course records in (you will be given handouts on each process)
  • Other materials will be required as the course progresses.
