Introduction to TV and Film Set Design for 16 to 18 Year olds
Have you ever watched your favourite movie or TV show and thought how captivating the set design was?
This course will give you a chance to step behind the scenes and learn about how the art department achieves this! All you need to be is a huge TV/film fan with a lot of imagination and a keen interest in art and spatial design.
During the course we will look at some of the world's most renowned set designers and influential directors. You'll learn about the different roles within the art department and how they work along side the rest of the crew. We'll also discuss single and multi camera techniques and different camera shots on location and within the studio.
The tutor will set you a TV show design brief and, with their careful guidance, you will translate your ideas into mood boards and and a scale model!You'll also learn how to break down a short film script or scene and translate it into a sketch of a potential set.
This is the perfect beginner's course for anyone interested in design and wants to pursue further education in film studies. It will also give you an invaluable opportunity to enlarge your portfolio for art college.
Who should take this course?
This course is aimed at beginners who would like to gain knowledge of the processes involved when designing for a production and learn more about the careers available in the art department of films or television.
Film Design, TV set design (how to design for bands and artists, chat shows and understanding how multi cameras work within the studio)
By the end of the course you will know how to break down a short script, understand a design brief, create mood boards based on initital sketches, model building techniques and understanding scale, famous designers and directors, what is a budget? and understand single and multi camera techniques.

Rebecca Morton has been designing sets and art directing for TV and film for over 25 years. Her first ever TV show was helping to devise Teletubbies.
