Creating A Character

Creating A Character

Central Saint Martins
Taught by
Bradley Taylor

This course will focus on character development and will explore movement, voice and, most importantly, inner physicality. The aim is to equip the actor with quick and decisive tools with which to search for and realise a character in order to prepare effectively for auditions, and fully inhabit a role.

The course will focus on the observation of the human condition and how to look at things without judgment but through repetition and play in order that any facet of human life can be replicated and, most importantly, dramatised.

Topics covered include:

  • movement class each session to find character tempo
  • use of everyday objects
  • use of gestures
  • placement of characters

There will be an informal presentation at the end of the five days in which the actors will display the characters and scenarios that they have been developed.
