Learn English for the Creative Industries at UAL, second in the world for Art and Design in the 2020 QS World University Rankings®.

This course is ideal if you want to improve your English in an art and design context and:

You are an art/design student, or you want to apply to UAL / another university,


You work, or aspire to work in a creative industry,


You have an interest in art and design,


You want to study at a world-renowned, high-ranking university.

English level

This course has 2 levels:


Equivalent to:

  • CEFR A2-B1
  • Pre-intermediate / lower-intermediate
  • IELTS 4.5-5


Equivalent to:

  • CEFR B1+-B2
  • Intermediate / upper-intermediate
  • IELTS 5.5 +

When you apply for the course, you will have an online interview with one of our teachers who will then assign your level. You do not need an IELTS score to apply.

Course description

On this course you will:

  • Study General English, Academic English and English for the Creative Industries.
  • Improve your vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation skills.
  • Improve reading, writing, listening, speaking and independent learning skills.
  • Study English using art and design resources and topics including creative industries, design, fashion, art, photography, communications, architecture, London life and British culture.
  • Create an art or design project.
  • Learn from experienced, friendly and knowledgeable teachers.
  • Get involved in virtual UAL life through social events and activities.

Course assessment

At the end of the course you will write an assignment and give a presentation as part of your final project. You will receive a Record of Study and Achievement certificate with your grades for this project. You will also be given feedback on your project.

Hours a week

12 hours a week for 8 weeks. This includes:

  • 3 sessions of 3 hour live classes,
  • 3 hours of independent study.

We will run the same course twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They are the same course. When you apply please select the time you prefer.

  • Course 1:
    • 9am - 12:30pm (UK time), Monday to Wednesday. Including a 30 minute break.
  • Course 2:
    • 5pm - 8:30pm (UK time), Monday to Wednesday. Including a 30 minute break.


  • £2150 for 8-week course.
