Developing Practice - Contextual and Creative Transition to Higher Education Online Short Course

Course description

This six week online course will support Foundation Plus offer holders to prepare for a smooth transition to their undergraduate courses at UAThe curriculum will focus on contextual and creative practice to prepare students for the academic demands of undergraduate study.

Specialist tutors from the Central Saint Martins Foundation programme will teach the course, making key aspects of the Foundation Plus experience available to students through this intensive online delivery. After successful completion of this course students will be able to enrol on their UAL undergraduate programme.

A series of thematic project briefs will guide students to develop their contextual practice knowledge before challenging them to develop and present their own creative responses. All work will be uploaded for peer to peer and tutor feedback.


Entry requirements

  • A conditional offer to study a full-time BA course at UAL.
  • If English isnt your first language you will need an IELTS (or equivalent English language qualification) of level 5.0 or above with at least 4.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Please check our English language requirements.

If you are progressing to a full time course at UAL after completing your programme and have English language qualifications as part of your offer, you are still required to meet these conditions. These will be listed in your offer letter. You have until Monday 21 September 2020 to meet the conditions of your study offer. Weve extended the deadline because we understand the Coronavirus outbreak may be affecting what you need to meet your offer conditions.

We have added to the list of English language qualifications that we accept as proof of your English language ability. For example, we now accept the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, TOEFL iBT at Home and LanguageCert English tests, as well as many more qualifications from secondary or high school education in certain countries.   • A sketchbook (A3 landscape if possible)
  • A small notebook
  • Post-it notes
  • A2 cartridge paper (around 20 sheets)
  • Cardboard
  • A selection of drawing materials including pens and pencils
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • A glue stick
  • Scalpel and cutting mat

If you have a printer at home this may be useful, so make sure you have ink cartridges and suitable paper.Students will be encouraged to use any other materials they have to hand, and the materials that they enjoy using, tutors won’t ask you to use anything that is difficult to find.
