This course will give participants a general introduction to the history of writing and an overview of the different calligraphic styles.
During the class you will learn practical skills such as the use of different tools and material and letter construction. You will study at least one script, and each student will produce one hand written word or sentence by the end of the course.

Alice Mazzilli has a background in typography and graffiti, and has a deep understanding of lettering. She apprenticed under one of the world's leading scribes and now runs her own calligraphy and lettering design business here in London, where she boasts such clients as The Royal Academy of Arts, Smythson and Mappin & Webb. She has extensive knowledge of the history of traditional calligraphy practice and the elegant Roman alphabet.
All materials will be provided on your first day. You may wish to bring a notepad and pen.
