Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is a comprehensive and hands-on course which will introduce you to digital design in the shape of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You will also discover how seamlessly the 3 programmes can work together.
You'll gain an appreciation of bitmap and vector graphics too, and learn when it's best to use the different image file formats. We will also give you some tips on using basic keyboard shortcuts to improve workflow.
You will explore a variety of processes including design and layout, workspaces, tools and palettes, importing files and saving files for onscreen and print output.
Please note this course is taught on a Mac computer.
- Understanding the rudiments of design and layout
- Looking at the difference between bitmap and vector graphics
- Understanding the range of image file formats
- Setting up and working with a multi-paged InDesign document
- Exploring Illustrator and Photoshop workspaces, tools and palettes
- Using InDesign to import/lay out text and images (created in Photoshop and Illustrator)
- Saving files for onscreen and/or print output
By the end of the course, you'll understand design principles, the dynamics of composition and colour, and the technical issues surrounding print and web distribution.
Who should attend
Anyone looking for a sound introduction to the capabilities of 3 leading industry-standard software programmes; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You could be a digital design student, home user or a digital design professional. Please be advised that this is an intensive course and you will need to be confident using a computer and working with new software interfaces.
Claire Parry is a freelance graphic designer and a qualified teacher with a foundation degree in Typographic Design and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Working in studios and publicity departments, Claire has gained considerable experience of corporate and promotional publications, information graphics and Adobe's Creative Suite.
She is currently working as a specialist contractor on promotional design projects for Bechtel - a global company, whilst continuing her teaching in graphic design and computer graphics at the University of the Arts London.
Matthew Edwards is a visual artist and qualified teacher with a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, BA (Hons) Interactive Arts and an MA in Fine Art Digital. He also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
Alongside his art practice, Matthew currently works for University of the Arts London, teaching the entire Adobe Creative Suite, to students of all levels.
Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:
- Paper and Pen
- 8GB USB memory stick, or cloud storage - so that you can save your work
Please be advised that this course will be taught using the Adobe Creative Cloud.
You will need an Adobe ID to participate on the course.
You can set this up before the course starts at https://www.adobe.com/uk/ and select ‘Get an Adobe ID'.
If you already have an Adobe ID, please check your login details still work.
You do not need to subscribe to the software. This is free to students when studying in college on any UAL networked computer.
Please remember to write your login details down safely and bring these along on the first day of your course.
