Interaction Design Professional Development
Throughout the course students will learn how to connect a physical sensor to an online webpage. The course will consist of two parts:
The first will be focused on setting up a sensor or controller connected to an Arduino board and connecting it to a browser using p5.bots.js
The second part will be a group project where all the data from the sensors is read and sent to another website to be explored visually so that the physical inputs from the different sensors can perform actions on a common canvas.
This will cover very basic visuals and electronic inputs and focus more deeply on how to connect them using the browser. So that these can easily be transposed onto more complex projects that involve physical installations involving data and/or visuals.
- Basic arduino and p5,
- A more advanced library to connect both
- How to transfer data between multiple machines
Who should take this course?
Whoever is interested in interaction design involving physical and digital inputs.
The course will give insight on how to merge the physical and the virtual worlds in ways that can be expanded onto different more ambitious projects such as art installations or design pieces.
Entry requirements: Basic knowledge on Arduino and P5.js is helpful but not mandatory.
Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older
Students to ideally bring with them:
Laptop with Arduino IDE.
