Trends affect the world around us, they can be emotional, physical and psychological. The kaleidoscopic diversity of today's intellectual, social, cultural, aesthetic and consumer dynamics can all be traced on a trajectory that connects the present to the future. A new product, a new behaviour, a new piece of art of today - they can all represent the seeds of trends of tomorrow. This course will open your eyes to the vast array of cultures around you; understand what trends are, where to look for them, how to read them, and when you find them - how to apply them.
Exploring the Future: Intuition to Application
Through this practical and interactive course, with London as your invigorating playground, you will learn about how vital trend research and forecasting is to the innovation of products and services.
Equipped with your trend forecasting toolkit, intuition and observational analysis skills, you will scour the city for triggers and indicators about the future.
By studying behaviour, exploring the streets, visiting cultural hubs and exhibitions, you will extract insights that will help you develop trends and scenarios to base your predictions on.
You will learn through dynamic workshops how to apply the trends you have found toward the creation of new products and services.
This is an intermediate course. It is suitable to those who have completed 'Cross Disciplinary Trend Forecasting Part 1. However this is not mandatory and students with previous experience elsewhere will be welcome.

Luca Beckerson is currently undertaking a doctorate in Built Environment at University of the Arts London. He has experience from a broad range of projects in the fields of three dimensional design, applied arts, and fashion. He comes from many years of business management experience where he has co-developed brand DNA and concepts for several new start-up Businesses.
Taira is a Strategic Designer whose work is focused on the research and development that leads to the innovation of products, services and businesses. Her educational and professional background have been quite winding, mass media entangled with fashion and Strategic Design. She is currently the Research Manager at a startup based in Milan, where she is working on innovating the fashion retail industry and experience. She also has a long standing obsession with smart materials.
