Description


Digital animation for 14 - 17 year olds will teach you the fundamentals of animation. You will learn a range of digital techniques that will enable you to create beautiful movement and animate anything using stop motion and Adobe After Effects.

Through engaging workshops we will explore the principles of animation to add impact and energy. You will learn how to photograph and prepare your images using Photoshop. Using Adobe After Effects, you will be introduced to basic compositing techniques and character rigging, to give life and motion to your creations. Combining these skills you will make a short animation piece, which will provide you with all the essential skills to continue exploring the world of motion.

Course outcomes
By the end of the course you will understand the processes involved with creating a simple stop-motion animation. Learnt how to use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images. And, using After Effects, bring your characters and narrative to life through compositing techniques. You will leave the course with a short animation piece to add to your portfolio and inspire future creations!

This course is aimed at students with an interest in animation and motion graphics. Perhaps you are thinking of taking art A-Level and/or pursuing a degree in art. Or maybe you are simply looking for a new way to explore and express your creativity.

Tutor Description


Marius Simkus has a BA (hons) in Visual Arts, specialising in graphic design, motion graphics and interactive art. Marius is currently a technical coordinator at the Camberwell College of Arts digital media department as well as a visiting lecturer for Moving Image at Norwich University of Arts. Having worked as a freelance motion graphics designer, with various projects and studios, Marius has gained in-depth knowledge and experience in adapting numerous digital techniques to help students create beautiful motion pieces.

Materials


Please bring the following items with you on the first day:

  • Digital Camera or Camera phone
  • USB Stick 2GB plus
  • Sketchbook, pens and pencils

Please be advised that this course will be taught using the Adobe Creative Cloud.

You will need an Adobe ID to participate on the course.

You can set this up before the course starts at https://www.adobe.com/uk/ and select ‘Get an Adobe ID'.

If you already have an Adobe ID, please check your login details still work.

You do not need to subscribe to the software. This is free to students when studying in college on any UAL networked computer.

Please remember to write your login details down safely and bring these along on the first day of your course.
