Join this introductory ceramics workshop to learn through making as you develop your skills and explore ceramic techniques.

You will discover the creative possibilities of using clay; from hand building, coiling, slab building and press molding, to surface decoration, using slips and oxides and the application of glazes. This course provides a great opportunity to experiment in the ceramics workshop, creating different types of ceramic pieces, whilst also learning about clay tools, materials and equipment and where to source them.
 
Topics Covered

  • The basic principles of clay
  • Hand building techniques
  • Introduction to slips, oxides and glazes
  • Introduction to throwing (turning) 
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have gained an improved understanding of the possibilities of ceramics as a medium.  And will have learnt to problem solve, generate ideas imaginatively and develop a personal visual language.
 
Who Should Attend
This course is aimed at anyone aged 16 - 18 years with a curiosity and have not had a proper chance to delve into ceramics as a medium. Whether you are considering pursuing further education in art or are just looking for a fun holiday experience!

  • A rubber kidney 
There is a canteen onsite, alternatively you may wish to bring a packed lunch with you.
