24.2Bn pairs of shoes were produced in 2018 and the global apparel and footwear industries produce 8% of the world's GHGs. Footwear supply chains are incredibly complex global webs of materials, suppliers and logistics and more. The industry is crying out for change for more sustainable production practices and responsible and regenerative consumerism. Vivobarefoot is UK-based global footwear B Corp brand with a mission to create the perfect shoe that is regenerative to feet, human movement and planetary health. Created by two cousins Galahad and Asher Clark we use barefoot design principles using wide toe boxes, thin soles and flexible structures which are scientifically proven to improve foot health and how we move. In 2020 Vivobarefoot launched ReVivo, a program that sees our worn and returned Vivo footwear revived, reconditioned, keeping our shoes on feet and away from landfill. The same year the company has launched Livebarefoot Fund, an in-house impact hub, catalysing research, advocacy and enterprise-based solutions for environmental and social problems.
We believe the only real model of environmental sustainability is the natural world itself: nature is the path to human wellbeing and our business goals are designed to help regenerate and restore the environment. Vivobarefoot is keen to support students whose work informs current debates in sustainable footwear.
