Janet's story

Janet is among hundreds of UAL students realising their creative potential thanks to funding.

For Graphic Designer Janet Ameer, taking the step to undertake a course at UAL involved the difficult decision to take a year out of work. “Receiving the UAL Vice-Chancellor’s Postgraduate Scholarship gave me that final nudge and confidence to return to education after many, many years. It really did take the edge off things financially to make what, for me, was quite a big commitment.”

Despite her wealth of experience, Janet was ready for a change: eager to learn new skills; work under different influences; and appreciate different ways of looking at things. "Because I'd been doing the same things at the same places a long time, I wanted to study somewhere different,” explains Janet. “UAL has a really good reputation. There are great facilities and I knew course would challenge me.”

Continuing her education was an extremely valuable opportunity for Janet, who has made the most of this time to study and explore creatively. “I have been re-invigorated in my teaching and practice. I intend to carry on teaching graphic design and run personal projects in parallel.”
