Improve your language skills with our art and design focused Academic English Skills Courses.

Speaking about your work

Taking part in the Academic English Skills courses will help you gain the language skills you need, so that you can speak confidently about your work in academic contexts. In the sessions you will identify and practice using some of the vocabulary and phrases artists and students often use to speak about their work. You will also look at the differences between analysis and evaluation, and further your critical reflection when discussing your work with others.

Language for Academic Writing

This is an introductory course to academic writing where you’ll learn what the features of good academic writing are, as well as learning how to layout your sentences and paragraphs appropriately. You’ll also work on selecting and expanding vocabulary for your assignments.

Language for Advanced Academic Writing

Once you’ve completed the Language for Academic Writing Course, you can take the advanced level and deepen your understanding of UK academic writing conventions. This course is especially relevant for post-graduate students.

When do the courses start?

The courses will start from week beginning 12 April and take place online via Blackboard Collaborate.
