Transnational Art, Identity and Nation (TrAIN) Research Centre, with support from British Society of Aesthetics and Association for Arts History would like to invite staff and research students at UAL with geopolitical and cultural connections to Eastern European postsocialist heritage within their research interests and/or art practice to submit a proposal for:

  • Research paper
  • Artistic statement
  • Portfolio of work
  • Presentation  (15 minutes)

Our project Postsocialism and Art will aim to bring together a community of art historians, theoreticians and art practitioners through symposia, workshops and reading groups. It will reflect on the current state of Eastern European postsocialist heritage and its presence at University of the Arts London (UAL), as well as its relation to currently potent decolonial discourse.

We would like to invite you to contribute to this project by participating in our activities from February to September 2021. We are organising also a series of masterclasses by renowned scholars in the field that we set as our academic framework – Madina Tlostanova, Boris Buden, Maja and Ruben Fawkes and Ana Sladojevic.

Considering the current pandemic, the first half of the project will likely be online. We want to learn more about your engagement in this field, especially if you work on Eastern European heritage. TrAIN is expanding its thematic strand of research on Eastern Europe and we are hoping to create a lively group for a discussion of this emerging area of interest at TrAIN and UAL.

How to apply

The deadline for the abstract is 14 February, please send 300 words proposal to e.warner@arts.ac.uk

Presentations will take place at the end of February 2021.
