Visiting Student Programmes

UAL offers 3 different options for research degree students who would like to visit us as part of their studies: the Visiting Student Programme, the Study Abroad Programme, and the Exchange Student Programme.

You can begin your visit to UAL with one of these programmes at one of 3 entry points throughout the year:

  • Entry/start point: 1 October; application deadline: 1 July
  • Entry/start point: 1 January; application deadline: 1 October
  • Entry/start point: 1 April; application deadline: 1 January

To apply for one of these programmes, you must be currently studying for an MPhil or PhD at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) outside of the United Kingdom. Depending on your specific requirements, your choice of which programme to apply for will then be based on the following criteria:

The Visiting Student Programme is for students who:

  • are currently studying for an MPhil or PhD at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) outside of the United Kingdom;
  • would like to visit UAL for either 3 or 6 months as an ‘extra’ part of their research degree study.

The Study Abroad Programme is for students who:

  • are currently studying for an MPhil or PhD at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) outside of the United Kingdom;
  • would like to visit UAL for either 9 or 12 months as a substitute for 1 year of study at their home HEI.

The Exchange Student Programme is for students who:

  • are currently studying for an MPhil or PhD at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) outside of the United Kingdom with which University of the Arts London has an agreed Exchange Programme in place;
  • would like to visit UAL for either 3, 6, 9 or 12 months as an ‘extra’ part of their research degree study.
