Material embodiment: Ecological costume design for performance.
This study focuses on the process of making costumes using recycled materials as originator for performance. The aims of this study are to advance the centrality of costume in performance creation and create an environmentally sound and integrated material-based devising method for the development of performance practice.
Rooted in theoretical principles researched around ecology, performance, liminality and ritual, a material-based creative method will be developed through the running of participatory workshops for the making of artefacts. This will underpin the study of the action of making and the physical exploration of the costume being made, to discern the effect of recycled materials on the creative process.
