Drawing a ‘New Map’ within Critical Cartography
Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon
How can artists use drawing to create a ‘new map’ that deconstructs and re-evaluates the notion of territorial borders? This practice-based research is situated at the convergence between ‘critical cartography’ that links geographic knowledge with political power, and drawing practice. It aims;
1) to make a new contribution to the field of critical cartography, focusing on current border issues (e.g. ‘borderless world’, Ohmae 1999, ‘unstable territory’, Guadagnini and Nori 2014)
2) to reassert the importance of drawing, as both analytical and creative practice.
