Contemporary fashion criticism: practices, voices and places
London College of Fashion
This practice-based PhD proposes to examine the role of the fashion critic as an integral part of the ‘cultural production’ of fashion. Whilst the thesis is firmly based in design criticism, it will draw upon the sociological framework used by McRobbie (1998). The aim is to locate and define the practice of a ‘fashion critic’, to understand the relationship between the production of critical fashion texts, voice, location and context and through this define what fashion criticism is.
