Design approaches have been acknowledged and applied as an important tool to develop and innovate services in public sector organisations in a number of countries. This is because they help organisations drive innovation and change through the collaboration among various stakeholders with a human-centred design perspective. This research will explore design for collaborative public service development and innovation, particularly within the local government context through mixed methodology including survey and case study approach. By investigating the factors determining effective collaborations and identifying the role designers/ non-designers are playing and could play in supporting systematic and productive collaborations.
