Francesca Daniella grew up in London and still lives and works in the city. Since graduating from BA Hair and Make-up for Fashion at London College of Fashion in 2018 she has worked as a make-up artist in fashion and television, and has had the opportunity to travel all over the world.
Why did you choose to study at LCF? What attracted you about this university?
Only the best of the best, go to the LCF, and I knew it would offer such a unique experience and I wanted to be part of that.
Why did you decide to study the BA Hair & Make-up for Fashion course?
I wanted to further my skills and knowledge regarding to all things hair, make-up and fashion and knew this course would serve me well and support me in doing that.
Did you always know you wanted to pursue a career in fashion?
I did, I just didn't know in what capacity. I have always been in love with fashion and I have forever appreciated all the effort that goes into making a powerful fashion image. I permanently knew I wanted to be part of this fantasy of the fashion world, I just didn't know in what way.
What did you enjoy the most about your course?
My teaching team were incredible to me, I loved my cohort we were from all over the world and brought together for our love of our craft. It was so amazing to see everyone’s styles develop and grow in only three years.
About your final project: Which topic did you explore and why did you choose it?
My final project took several turns, in the end it turned into a big A3 red portfolio book inspired by some of my earlier work that developed a whole new project. It was very well received, which meant a lot as this piece was a labour of love, tears and challenges. The research process was ongoing and at times a little dull if I am honest, but became a very necessary framework for me and my project.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a lecturer during your time at LCF?
‘Make mistakes, think on your feet and don’t be scared. Focus on what you want, perfect and finesse your aesthetic. And always let your brushes do the talking, your work should speak for itself.’
What have you been working on since finishing your course?
I have been very blessed with the amount of work I've had since graduating. I have worked on an array of interesting projects from television shows, to commercials, music videos, look books and of course fashion editorials.
For you, what's the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job for me is the ability to connect with the person in front of me, and to create something powerful. I also love being part of a team and being able to collaborate with such talented individuals.
What are your plans for the next few years? Where would you like to see yourself professionally?
In the next few years, I plan to be doing even MORE make-up on exciting things, and spreading my artistic flare everywhere possible. I am always ready to work hard.
What advice would you give to potential students who would like to enrol at this course?
Honestly, go for it !! What do you have to lose, but be prepared to work hard, very hard and push yourself. You never know what you might be capable of. I did face challenges but that is normal, and they helped shape me.
