Ryan Smith

Ryan Smith is the Game Arts Pathway Leader on BA (Hons) Animation at London College of Communication.

Ryan has previously worked at a number of creative industries ranging from Film and TV at the Mill in London to architecture design in China.

He has always had a vast interest in all areas of creativity and this has made him aware of many skills and traits that are required to be successful in the creative industries.

Being a continuous student of both 2D and 3D game arts, Ryan holds current and relevant knowledge for his students to gain the best possible experience and guidance.

"It’s all about staying relevant and cementing the fundamentals."

Ryan has a BA (Hons)  Creative Computer Game Design degree and a Masters in Computer Animation. He has also studied at Escape studios where he completed the VFX production course.

He has been working in education since 2013 where he has managed and created many games related courses in both FE and HE as a Programme Coordinator.

When working with his students he reminds them to manage their expectations as quality trumps quantity.

"I try and make my students aware that it's ok to fail as failing equals feedback and the difference between try and triumph is a just a little UMPH!"

He wants his students to create work that evokes a question surrounding a narrative.  For example, when creating environments, ask ‘what has happened here?'. This will help to create a compelling piece.
