Matthew Hawkins is a photographer and educator, and is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Photography course at London College of Communication.
Matthew studied photography at Trent Polytechnic under photographer Euan Duff and then at London College of Communication (then known as London College of Printing) under Anne Williams, the former Programme Director of Photography at LCC.
Matthew is interested in an image’s potential to tell stories through collaborative processes with colleagues, students and those outside the University, and its capacity to speak of our past and future social and cultural lives.
He initially worked as an assistant and then a freelance editorial photographer for Lipstick Studios, Julian Cotterell Productions and Mike Owen Photographer as an assistant and then as a freelance editorial photographer. Subsequently Matthew worked at Photofusion before pursing his MA at LCC.
Matthew started teaching at LCC in 2001. He has benefited both as a student and member of staff from his long association with the College and is privileged to be in a position to bring his experiences to the continuing development and innovation of photographic education at LCC.
Matthew pursues a research interest in how to best prepare students for future careers shaped by technological and cultural developments, and a commitment to the development of a teaching and learning practice that acknowledges the diverse needs and aspirations of our students.
