Zabarjad Salam

I trained as an actress at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying voice under Patsy Rodenburg, Jeanette Nelson and Charmian Hoare. I gained my Voice MA at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

As well as teaching at Drama Centre London I teach at ALRA (The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts), the Central School of Speech and Drama and the Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama.

I have worked as a professional actress and jazz/blues singer. I've also spent time in India studying Carnatic Singing and Konnakol which are traditional South Asian vocal forms as well as Kathakali, a dance drama form from Kerala.

What I teach

I teach practical voice at Drama Centre London, taking the students from basic alignment, release work, breath and support, centre note/optimum pitch, through to resonance.

I encourage the students to discover their own voices and develop a sense of creativity when exploring and fulfilling their artistic potential, in preparation for the professional world.
