I studied at the University of Cambridge and University of Michigan, USA. I have taught extensively in both France and England, most recently at BAADA, King’s College London and Royal Holloway College, University of London.
A well known playwright and translator, I have written for theatre, film, TV and radio. My published play-texts include Dickens in America (Oberon 1998) and Janis in the Chelsea/Elgar’s Tenth Muse/Meeting Mr Wilde (Oberon 2003).
What I teach
I teach mainly on the BA Directing course where, for the first two years we look closely at key texts taken from the history of European and world theatre.
I bring both my academic and my playwright’s experience to bear in the analysis of structures, use of language, characterisation and dramatic development. Throughout, I emphasise the importance of storytelling to both writer and director.
