Emma Lacey

Bringing with her ceramic experience from running her own business, Emma Lacey used her Masters to research the opportunities and design methods for design intervention into production technologies.

‘Engaging Ceramics’ responds to our personal relationships with ceramic objects and aims to encourage conscious engagement with the things we use everyday. The slight corruption of form and intervention in industrial process gives unique qualities to, what appear to be, standard sets of cups and saucers or other tableware items.

The forms are designed to encourage long-term, ritualistic use in a time where things are so often loved briefly, put at the back of the cupboard, replaced or thrown away. The image above shows the ‘elliptical demitasse’, one of Emma's most successful designs and her break-through range which was initially chosen by Sketch on Conduit Street, London.

Since graduating Emma has built a thriving career as a freelance ceramic designer and consultant alongside her eponymous ceramic design company.
