Biography

With an interest in the designer's creative process, I have photographed the work of many leading and visionary fashion designers including Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Christopher Kane.

My backstage photography has been published in a broad range of media, from magazines such as i-D to book publications, including Alexander McQueen:The Life and the Legacy, by Judith Watt, and Maison Martin Margiela, by Martin Margiela.

I was recently awarded Central Saint Martins’ Refresh funding which facilitated documenting backstage the couture show and atelier of Yuima Nakazato in Paris.

Using photography as a tool for communication, I am also interested in engaging young people in creative processes. I have worked with gangs in London and the suburbs of Paris and am involved in a number of UAL Widening Participation projects. My work with young Muslim women exploring style and identity was nominated for a Guardian University Award in 2014.

The practice of drawing is central to my visual practice and I was appointed Drawing Scholar for the New English Art Club (NEAC) in 2012.

My research interests are concerned with the creative process, and collaborative and inter-disciplinary learning. I currently co-lead an educational research project titled ‘Looking/Thinking/Making’ with Silke Lange, Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, focused on digital learning within fashion communication. Initial findings of this research were presented as a paper at the Designs on eLearning Conference, New York, 2016.
