Biography

I am a lecturer in MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, and BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts. I am an associate editor on the Journal of Illustration, and member of the Illustration Research steering committee.

My cross-disciplinary background encompasses biology, fine art, information science, and commercial copy writing. The relationship between art and science is central to my research. In November 2013 I chaired and co-curated the 4thInternational Illustration Research Symposium ‘Science, Imagination and the Illustration of Knowledge’ at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum.

Other research interests include alchemy, Romanticism, and Marshall McLuhan. As practising artist, I work across drawing, installation and performance, and participated in Jiggling Atoms in 2012.I am a regular contributor to Varoom: The Illustration Report, and was a co-author of Original Risographies (Studio Operative).

In 2014 I was presented with a UAL Teaching Award for outstanding teaching.
