Malcolm Cocks, Vutec Panel 7, atomised spray on plastic (digital), 1997
Cocks was an early ambassador for digital technology in textile design at Central Saint Martins (rumour has it he was responsible for bringing the first Apple Mac computer to the College). Working on the Textiles, Techniques and Technology research project he explored the potential of new technologies in the production of printed, woven and knitted textiles. His work examined the belief that designers should approach digital technology in a new way, rather than using it to complement traditional techniques. Using early versions of Photoshop and other software he deconstructed traditional patterns to celebrate the early possibilities of digital design.
