Nassia Matsa, MA Fashion Journalism 2012, is about to launch her own publishing company, this_is_hardcore, with funding and support from UnLtd. and City Law Firm, Simmons & Simmons.

Her first publication will be her MA project FAQ FOOD, an eccentric dive into food and cartoonery, designed for the space-short and style-rich student.

Nassia told LCF News what FAQ FOOD is all about:

“I mixed my favourite ingredients: Zine couture; the punk aesthetic; comics; quirky young illustrators that have not been widely published; parties; the East London vibe; and my friends cooking.”

Nassia told us how the funding from UnLtd., entrepreneur supporters, has been invaluable in launching her project, and that Simmons & Simmons have provided direction and motivation. Seeing representatives of the law firm having a giggle whilst reading her book, was an added bonus.

Nassia was also nominated for Social & Ethical Entrepreneur of the year 2012 in the Creative Entrepreneur Awards, sponsored by Natwest.

What does this mean to the young journalist?

“Motivation to the maximum. It is amazing to see your personal project, which started as a fun thing to do, slowly getting recognition.”

Developed during her time at LCF, Nassia says the project was inspired by “interacting with the best of the next generation of creatives” at university, and her tutors’ input:

“The support and the advice of the Lecturers are the most important benefits you can enjoy as an LCF student as they are not only academics but active parts of the fashion industry.”

FAQ FOOD, published by this_is_hardcore, will be out next month.

“To make matters even more eccentric,” Nassia adds, “The special edition of the magazine is edible, making FAQ FOOD the first magazine about food that you can actually eat, and it tastes like strawberry or bacon; you decide.”
