London College of Communication alumni Louise White graduated from BA (Hons) Magazine Publishing in 2011, and has since been working her way up in the magazine industry. She has written for publications such as ’Now’, ‘Loaded’, ‘Wedding’ and ‘Look’, and has recently begun writing for ‘Marie Claire’, who have the largest women’s fashion magazine website.  Louise talks about her career so far:

“I first started working at IPC Media in 2008, applying to all the different magazines that interested me and would help me towards my future career. As I was studying at the time on the BA (Hons) Magazine Publishing course I wanted to learn more and get as much industry experience as possible to help me with my assignments, as well as getting myself recognised in the field.

Working at Now magazine was the biggest achievement at the time – I worked with Fashion Editor Bonita Turner and we decided to shoot a Chanel inspired shoot in Paris. At the time I was only there on work experience but Bonita  asked me if I wanted to work freelance on this shoot and be paid – it was very compelling, I was so excited and jumped at the opportunity, not to realise bigger and better things were yet to come.

I then worked freelance doing Editorial fashion shoots with the magazines, but due to my studies I had to stop as it was very demanding – at the time and it was very hard juggling my degree with freelance work.

After I graduated I had a phone call from IPC Media asking me to come to an interview. At the time it was for a job in advertising, which I decided to try as it was a way to get a foot in the door.  Since then I have moved on to more developments within IPC Media.  I have been on Editorial training to help me write features, and have been able to visit different magazine to get as much writing experience as possible.

I was invited to join the Marie Claire team in June 2013. It’s amazing – the beauty and fashion cupboards speak for themselves. I work across the beauty, features and fashion departments and currently write online posts, such as reports from press shows and health news.  I enjoy being able to engage with readers and of course I love the freebies!

I have now worked at IPC for four years and still love it. There are so many opportunities and training schemes to help build your career. I am now looking forward to another year and to see what more exciting things this company can bring.”
