Catherine Wales: MA Digital Fashion

London College of Fashion alumna, Catherine Wales, has her work on show at the Design Museum as part of The Future is Here: A New Industrial Revolution, running until October 29.

Catherine’s MA final collection, “Project DNA”, uses new 3D printing technologies to create incredible high-fashion luxury accessories.

The Design Museum’s exhibition explores the changing roles of consumer, designer and manufacturer in the new era of digital design, and proposes that the technological transformations taking place now will have as profound an impact as the Industrial Revolution did previously.

Catherine’s collection is inspired by identity and the visual structure of human chromosomes. The pieces are created of almost entirely individual and interchangeable ball and socket components which allow them to be built and rebuilt in different ways.

As an expert pattern cutter, her vision was to provide a sustainable solution to problems with garment sizing and manufacturing restrictions. With 3D printing technology she has founded a method which cuts down on waste and reflects what fashion consumers want.

Make sure to catch Catherine’s futuristic fashion pieces on show at the museum.
