Creative Conscience Award for LCC MA Documentary Film Graduate Vinicius Salles

Keeping itStraight

Recent MA Documentary Film graduate Vinicius Salles has won the Creative Conscience UK Gold Award in the Film & Photography category for his 2012 graduation film Keep It Straight.

The nineteen minute documentary by the 2013 London College of Communication (LCC) graduate explores society’s stereotyped view of male homosexuality through the stories of Ben Day and Scott Valentine, founders of the Gay Boxing Club in Central London.

Simultaneously violent and delicate, the story documents how boxing changes the lives of the two men and how they deal with the common misconceptions of masculinity.

An initiative between the Design Council and Illuminating Brands, The Creative Conscience Awards focus on world changing creativity and acts as a platform for creative talent.

Winning students from each category have the opportunity to network with experts in the creative industries and are offered internships and placements within their field.

Multi-talented Salles is currently working on new projects including a performance of The Drowned Man at the National Theatre.
