Camberwell MA Book Arts 2013 graduate show In-Folds at Deptford X

InfoldsX6

Camberwell College of Arts MA Book Arts 2013 graduates will also be at Deptford X from 27 September to 2 October 2013 with their exhibition ‘In-Folds’.

“For In-Folds at Deptford Lounge we have brought elements of our Camberwell MA Book Arts graduate exhibition to Deptford X. Print, photographic and book works accompany a series of discussions and workshops around a specially designed reading raft. We are interested in Deptford’s history as a point of connection between Kent and the Thames, its political and social links with the river. The raft structure serves as a platform or support structure, for us and for the work.

The In-Folds raft, designed by Joanna Brinton takes its inspiration from the work and life of Grinling Gibbons who began his career carving ships prows in Deptford. Gibbons’ signature carving of pea pods will adorn the rafts’ flag. The pods are rumoured to have been carved closed until Gibbons was paid, and only after payment would he open them.”
