Camberwell BA Graphic Design tutor Sam Winston commissioned by the V&A for Memory Palace

Camberwell BA Graphic Design tutor Sam Winston was recently commissioned by the V&A museum to produce a piece of work for the Memory Palace exhibition.

Based on a specifically written text by the author Hari Kunzru – multiple artists, illustrators and designers each worked on illustrating a section of his writing.

Sam’s work was a response to a piece of text that focused on mankind’s worship of the periodic table. Taking the chemical components that make up some of our more iconic modern day objects, like gold watches and sim cards, Sam translated their chemical symbols into quasi-religious ‘Yantras’ and designs.

Using a process usually reserved for letterpress printing Sam acid etched the typographic designs onto zinc plates.

Memory Palace is on at the V&A until 20 October 2013.
