Curator, tutor and legendary Children’s book illustrator Quentin Blake has been knighted by the Prince of Wales in the New Years honours list, recognising his 64 years of Illustration. Along with his work for the House of Illustration, which he has pledged his entire archive to.
Born 1932 Blake discovered more about painting and drawing whilst studing for life drawing classes at Chelsea around 1960. Most famous for his energetic and captivating Roald Dahl illustrations, he also worked with The Spectator and Punch magazine, John Yeoman, Russell Hoban, Joan Aiken and Michael Rosen to name a few.
He has received a host of previous awards including; An OBE for services to Children’s Literature in 1988, appointment as the first ever Children’s Laureate in 1999, the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration in 2002 and honoured a CBE in 2005.
