This summer, the UAL Alumni team has been meeting and celebrating with alumni across our Colleges, as part of the UAL Summer shows.
The first Alumni gathering took place at Camberwell College of Arts. Guests were welcomed by Associate Dean of Camberwell Amanda Jenkins, who gave an overview of the show and an update from the College. Many alumni had not been back to the College since they graduated in the 1960s and 70s, and some even unexpectedly met long lost friends they knew from their course. Many stories and memories were shared over a glass of wine, before guests took a tour of the show and the exciting artwork on display.
Next up was Wimbledon College of Arts. On the hottest day of the year, over 40 alumni gathered in the courtyard at Wimbledon to hear all of the latest news from the Dean, Simon Betts, who was delighted to see so many familiar faces in attendance. Friends were reunited over drinks and nibbles, before taking a tour of the spectacular show.
Finally, over 60 alumni gathered at London College of Communication for a celebration evening. Natalie Brett, Pro-Vice Chancellor, welcomed all guests and said how thrilled she was to see so many alumni there. She emphasised that the alumni of LCC are hugely influential across the creative industries, not just in London or the UK, but around the world. She highlighted how our alumni are such an important part of our future as well as our past and how keen we are to include alumni in our plans. With transformative education at the heart of UAL strategy and a brand new building on the horizon, Natalie stressed that opportunities to share ideas and collaborate with our alumni in the creative and cultural industries is invaluable. Natalie highlighted that this is an incredibly exciting time for LCC, and that there has never been a better time for alumni to make a positive difference to our current student’s experience.
Guests then took advantage of tours of the amazing technical facilities at LCC, including the Archives and Special Collections Centre, led by an engaging group of current students.
Alumni were also encouraged to take part in an interactive voting task, giving them to chance to tell us what they would most like to see from UAL, including using our creative spaces, networking opportunities and access to research and learning. We are very grateful to those that took part, as this feedback will be invaluable to us as we strive to the create benefits, services and opportunities most suited to you.
After networking over drinks, guests were free to look around the fantastic exhibition from the Design School graduating students, celebrating their hard work and achievements.
