12 Graduate Labels in the Running for LVMH Young Fashion Designer

An incredible 12 Central Saint Martins alumni are among the 30 semifinalists for the LVMH Young Fashion Designer accolade.

The LVMH Young Fashion Designer prize – the winner of which will walk away with a grant of 300,000 Euros and a year of coaching – was open to any designer aged 18-40 who had presented and sold at least two collections of women’s or men’s ready-to-wear. In total, more than 1,200 people applied.

Of the 12 alumni chosen, Meadham Kirchhoff, Kathleen Kye, Christopher Kane, Craig Green, Christopher Shannon and Yang Li all studied on both BA and MA Fashion courses at Central Saint Martins. Simone Rocha, Thomas Tait, Marques’ Almeida, J JS Lee and Hellen Van Rees were graduates of MA Fashion and Ostwald Helgason of BA Fashion.

Delphine Arnault, second-in-command at Louis Vuitton, said: “I was extremely impressed by both the number and quality of the entrants. The online application process on the Prize website enabled designers from around the world to compete.”

On 26 and 27 February, 40 prominent industry figures will shortlist ten finalists. One winner will be picked at the end of May. Among those on the final jury will be Professor Louise Wilson OBE, Director of MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins.
