MA Academic Practice participants must undertake one 40 credit research unit prior to undertaking the Dissertation unit. There are 2 options to choose from: either Research Methods for Arts Higher Education or Research through Practice.
You should choose the option that most suits your professional circumstances and research interests. This Research Methods for Arts Higher Education unit is suitable for participants wishing to learn about multiple research methods commonly used in educational research. If you have a creative practice that you wish to explore on the course, we suggest you select the Research through Practice unit.
In the Research Methods for Arts Higher Education unit you will identify an academic practice topic that interests you, and refine this topic into a feasible research enquiry. You will test a range of methodologies and methods that might be appropriate for your study, leading the design of a research proposal that you will then develop and implement within the Dissertation unit.
During the unit you will:
- Attend a series of workshops, presentations and seminars
- Identify literature relevant to your topic and produce an annotated bibliography (2,000 words)
- Practise using a selected research method and write an evaluative account (2,000 words)
- Produce a research proposal (3,000 words).
